Introduction

Every pattern begins with a signal. This signal can be something internal or external, that enters your system
and movement follows. This signal can be clear or subtle. It can come from what’s happening now, or from something that feels familiar.

Why does the signal matter?

The signal shapes how the pattern starts, how it builds and how it continues. When the signal is unclear or misread, the pattern can feel confusing or overwhelming. When the signal is understood, the pattern becomes easier to work with.

Types of Signal

Internal Signal

Information coming from within you in the form of thoughts, expectations, memories, or associations.

Sometimes the signal isn’t what’s happening now. Sometimes your system recognizes a pattern from before.

External Signal

Information coming from outside you. This may be something someone said or did, a situation or environment, a change or an unexpected event.

Step 1: Noticing the Signal

Where does this signal seem to be coming from?
– Internal (thought, memory, expectation)
– External (something happening around me)
– A mix of both
– I’m not sure

Does this feel familiar?
– Yes, I’ve felt this pattern before
– No, this feels new
– Not sure

Step 2: Clarifying the Signal

Sometimes the signal becomes stronger because of how it’s interpreted.

Simple awareness:
– What actually happened?
– How did I interpret it?

Gentle reflection:
– The signal is the starting point, not the full story.

Step 3: Working With the Signal

You don’t need to resolve everything. Just creating a little clarity can shift how the pattern unfolds.

Choose one small shift:
– Name what actually happened (keep it simple)
– Separate what happened from what it might mean
– Notice if this feels familiar from another time
– Pause before adding more interpretation

Below are some practices that may help you shift the pattern:
